ZAGREB (Croatia), September 19 (SeeNews) – Croatian state-owned power utility Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP) plans to invest a total of 1 billion kuna ($160.5 million/133.8 million euro) in 2017 to boost the security of electricity supply to a growing number of customers, the board member of the company, Sasa Dujmic, said.

The investments of the company in Dalmatia region will reach 200 million kuna this year, as the number of customers on the Adriatic coast is rising, Dujmic said during the official opening of the Hrvace transformer station, according to a press release issued by HEP on Monday.

These investments are necessary to enable further growth of Croatian tourism, but also to increase the quality of life of the citizens of Dalmatia and create conditions for the development of the economy, Dujmic said.

HEP put into operation the Hrvace transformer station after investing 20 million kuna in the first phase of its construction, the company said.

Hrvace, located near the Peruc hydropower plant, will significantly increase the network capacity, reliability and quality of electricity supply of the municipality of Hrvace, and will enable two-way supply of parts of Sinj, Vrlika and Otok municipalities, as well as the connection of new customers to the grid, HEP said.

In June, HEP said it will invest 20 million kuna in replacing obsolete equipment in Istria. In Rijeka, it will continue with the network construction programme worth more than 150 million kuna. The Primorje-Gorski Kotar county will see an improvement to consumer supply worth 40 million kuna, while a 63 million kuna expansion of the grid will be carried out in the Zadar county.
