Macedonia’s gross electricity output increases in Aug

SKOPJE (Macedonia), October 25 (SeeNews) – Macedonia’s gross electricity production rose by an annual 20.9% to 449,490 MWh in August, the national statistical office said on Wednesday.

Net electricity output increased 21.7% year-on-year to 420,027 MWh in August, Makstat said in a statement.
Thermal power plants contributed the largest portion of gross domestic electricity production, generating 265,392 MWh, 15.5% more than in August 2016.

Combined heat and power plants followed with 89,878 MWh, over four times more compared to August last year.
Hydropower plants generated 78,787 MWh, down 25.4% on the year.

Electricity generated by wind parks dropped 20.8% year-on-year to 7,964 MWh, while biogas plants’ output increased 41.9% to 4,707 MWh. Solar plants produced 2,762 MWh of electricity, up 2.1% on the year.
Macedonia’s electricity imports fell by an annual 16.5% to 156,688 MWh in August, while electricity imports soared to 41,752 MWh from 5,296 MWh in August last year.

Distribution losses shrank 5.6% on the year to 48,165 MWh in August.
