BELGRADE (Serbia), December 18 (SeeNews) – Serbian state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) plans to invest 860 million euro ($1 billion) in 50 environmental projects by 2025, a senior official at Serbia’s energy ministry said.

The investments are envisaged in an action plan that EPS is preparing to offset the negative environmental effects of its activities and comply with the European Union rules, Mirjana Filipovic, state secretary at the energy ministry, said, as quoted in a statement by the ministry on Friday.

In August energy minister Aleksandar Antic said Serbia’s total renewable energy capacity will reach 600 MW in 2020 – 500 MW of wind power capacity and 100 MW of biomass and hydropower plants.

Under Chapter 27 – Environment of Serbia’s EU accession talks, the country should invest between 700 million euro and 900 million euro to comply with the environmental requirements of the bloc.
