BELGRADE (Serbia), August 28 (SeeNews) – Serbia’s state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) plans to invest 600 million euro ($716 million) in the overhaul of its hydropower plants (HPPs) until 2025, Aleksandar Jakovljevic, head of corporate strategy department at EPS, has said.
The modernisation projects will allow the company to increase the installed capacity of its hydropower plants by some 166 MW from the current 3,000 MW, Jakovljevic said in a video file posted on the website of Serbian news agency Tanjug on Friday.
The primary objective of overhaul works is to extend the life span of the hydropower plants but technological advancements make it possible to increase the installed capacity of the plants as well, he noted.
EPS has invested a total of 200 million euro in the overhaul of its hydropower capacity so far, Jakovljevic added.
In May, Jakovljevic said EPS had already completed works on the overhaul of Bajina Basta hydropower plant, while similar projects for the Zvornik and Djerdap I hydroelectric plants were being executed.
